A Story of Raccoon and Bear.

Dear people of the 'verse,

Today we have a story about Raccoon and Bear:

Once upon a time in a beautiful green forest lived Brown Bear. She was a happy Bear and enjoyed her time alone in the Fall as well as the time she spent in the Spring teaching her cubs how to hunt and fish. It was Summertime and Bear spent most of her days digging roots out of the Earth with her claws and scratching her thick hide on Trees and generally getting into Bear-type mischief. One day while Bear was lounging in the late afternoon Sun, Raccoon scampered by her. She could tell Raccoon was wounded on his leg but was maybe being shy about asking for help so she dug a root out of the ground and tossed it to him. She nodded towards his thigh where there was some blood drying and she said "This will help." Raccoon looked at her gratefully and applied the root to the wound with his deft fingers. The last of the sun had just disappeared behind the trees and Raccoon said to Bear "Want to go sit by the creek?" Bear nodded a yes and off they went. They spent the whole night watching the changing constallations and telling stories of their Ancestors and about how Bear once fell in the river as a cub and ended up in the "next County" (as the humans call it).

They layed there all night talking. There were there so long that Sunrise was not far off. The soft light started to glow over the trees and when the Sun showed it's face Raccoon and Bear were very startled. The Sun was not the Sun at all! Infact, it had been replaced with a bright shiny silvery golden disc. This was very, very surprising. They watched it for a while and realized what they were looking at. Somehow, in the night, the Moon and the Sun had merged together on the other side of the Earth! What a beautiful and majestic sight! Raccoon and Bear, being close to nature as they were, chose not to question this but accept it joyfully as one of those strange and wonderful things that Nature does sometimes. Day after day they scampered and frolicked in the light of the SunMoon and never looked back to ask why.
